A New Home is Planned for the Rangers

Having now completed their training, the anti-poaching unit will be based at Mutsora (the headquarters of the Northern Sector), which is currently under rehabilitation by the London Zoological Society, the European Union and the Africa Conservation Fund.

The rangers will have the support of three vehicles and an ex-military 6×6 Scania SBA III lorry which has just been purchased with funds from UNESCO. This lorry is currently on a ship from Holland and is expected to arrive in the port of Mombassa, Kenya, within the next couple of weeks. The station has also been equipped with HF and VHF communications and a VSat will soon be installed. The Africa Conservation Fund will build accommodation for the rangers at Mutsora over the coming months, and in the meantime we have hired out a hotel for six months for the princely sum of 600USD which will be the temporary home for all the rangers’ families.

Hummh!
I wonder if all has been rose for these initiatives. If so why this is just done to Mutshora not to other areas where emergency rehabilitation is needed? There is smelly rat in this indeed. We put our money where our mouths are!!
There is a need for an independant evaluation as the new water paint on the walls doesn’t change much for the ruined buildings of the area.
How do we judge that there has been success then?
Best Regards

Well Vital, I am sure you will agree though that Mutsora in the Northern Sector was in desperate need of rehabilitation. I am also pretty certain that any evaluation would reveal that the Northern Sector has received a fraction of the investment received by the Southern Sector over the last decade or so.
By rehabilitating Mutsora we have ensured an appropriate base for the Advance Force, and I am certain these new buildings and other critical infrastructure will be put to good use. The proof will be in the pudding…

[…] The situation at Muramba is now calm, and only one of the three Advance Force troops still remains at Ishango. Their mission is to continue to provide protection to the small group of rangers at Ishango from any further Mai Mai attacks. I have just spoken with Elie Mundima, the Advance Force Commander, and he believes the situation is now stable and will be pulling his troop out on Wednesday to join his two other troops at Mutsora.
